报告主题：Sample preparation and introduction for Mass Spectrometry
This talk will describe the usual steps inpreparing samples for analysis by ICP spectroscopy. For elemental analysis, the sample is usuallydissolved in strong mineral acids, then diluted before analysis. For speciation analysis, much softerdissolution procedures are necessary, i.e., microwave extraction.
The resulting solutions are dispersed intofine droplets before they are introduced into the ICP, usually by a pneumaticnebulizer. In ICP-MS especially, thereare important advantages to using special low-flow nebulizers fabricated frominert materials. Desolvation andatomization of the resulting droplets is key.
Finally, a laser can be used to ablate asolid sample, with spatial resolution. This process yields solid particles that are much larger than those fromsolution aerosols. The processes of atomand ion formation from such laser ablation particles will be described viahigh-speed photographic studies.
